Dhurandhar is not based on Major Mohit Sharma
Ranveer Singh`s Dhurandhar is becoming one of the most anticipated movies as 2025 comes to an end. While speculation of the film being based on the life of Major Mohit Sharma sparked debate, the film`s director, Aditya Dhar, has finally issued a statement.
As soon as the trailer of Dhurandhar claimed that it was "inspired by incredible true events", audiences were quick enough to join the dots and assume the film was based on the martyred major.
However, the filmmaker took to social media and clarified that the upcoming political spy drama is not based on the life of Mohit Sharma.

Fans also drew similarities between other actors` characters – R. Madhavan’s Ajay Sanyal, Akshaye Khanna’s Rehman Dakait, Sanjay Dutt’s SP Chaudhary Aslam, and Arjun Rampal’s Major Iqbal ISI – and Ajit Doval, Rehman Dakait, Chaudhry Aslam Khan, and Ilyas Kashmiri, respectively.
With Ranveer Singh`s character name being deliberately withheld in the trailer, the film`s plot has raised intrigue among moviegoers.

This also forced Major Mohit Sharma`s brother, Madhur Sharma, to ask the film`s director if Dhurandhar is based on the late armyman`s life. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to ask for clarification.

Dhar replied to the tweet and reiterated that if he ever made a movie on Major Sharma, he would do it with the full consent of the family and wouldn`t like to tweak the story even a bit.
Issuing a clarification, the filmmaker wrote, "Hi, sir – our film Dhurandhar is not based on the life of braveheart Major Mohit Sharma AC(P) SM. This is an official clarification. I assure you, if we do make a biopic on Mohit Sir in the future, we will do it with full consent and in complete consultation with the family and in a way that truly honours his sacrifice for the nation and the legacy it has left for all of us. Jai Hind."
Major Mohit Sharma was one of the most decorated soldiers in the history of the Indian Army. He had gone undercover as Iftikhar Bhatt and infiltrated Hizbul Mujahideen in the early 2000s.
Starring Ranveer Singh, Sara Arjun, R. Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, and Sanjay Dutt, Dhurandhar is all set to release on December 5.
