Sivakarthikeyan fans had double the reason to celebrate on February 17, as the Tamil star not only marked his 40th birthday but also unveiled the much-anticipated title of his upcoming film with director AR Murugadoss. The film, previously referred to as "SK x ARM," now has an official name—Madharasi.
The announcement came through Sivakarthikeyan’s social media, where he shared a poster of his look from the film. He wrote, "Excited to present the title glimpse of our high-octane action entertainer, #Madharasi, with our favourite @a.r.murugadoss sir and my dear @anirudhofficial. #SKxARM ." Director AR Murugadoss also joined in, sharing, "Happy Birthday dearest @Siva_Kartikeyan. The ground is set for the MASSIVE ACTION. Let the HAVOC begin. #SKxARM is #Madharasi. TITLE GLIMPSE & FIRST LOOK out now!"
The first-look posters present Sivakarthikeyan in an intense avatar, staring fiercely into the camera. Accompanying the posters, a 44-second teaser glimpse was also released, setting the tone for what promises to be an action-packed film.
The teaser opens with aerial and long shots of a car godown and a line of container trucks moving in sync. This is followed by a dramatic scene where a truck deliberately crashes into a group of cars. The action then shifts to Sivakarthikeyan, who is introduced as someone to be feared, ready to take on a group of armed men single-handedly. The teaser suggests that his character is not an ordinary individual but someone with a powerful presence.
The teaser also features actors Vidyut Jammwal, Biju Menon, and Rukmini Vasanth. Notably, Biju Menon appears in the role of a police officer, hinting at a strong supporting cast and intriguing subplots.
The film’s title holds significance, as "Madharasi" is a term used both as a demonym and, at times, as a regional slur for people from the South Indian region. AR Murugadoss, known for his action-packed narratives, serves as both writer and director of the film.
Madharasi is produced by Sri Lakshmi Movies, with music composed by Anirudh Ravichander. The film’s cinematography is helmed by Sudeep Elamon, while A Sreekar Prasad takes charge of editing. Kevin Kumar is responsible for action choreography, and Arun Venjaramoodu leads production design.
With a promising cast, high-octane action, and a powerful title reveal, Madharasi is shaping up to be one of the most exciting Tamil films of the year.
