Kunal Kohli on Dhurandhar`s success
Dhurandhar: The Revenge has created a monstrous history by becoming the first-ever Indian film to collect over 3000 crore globally. Aditya Dhar`s spy espionage drama has become an oasis in a desert we never knew we needed.
While nobody anticipated the film to become this big of a success, it was Dhar`s vision and Ranveer Singh`s belief that made the two-part movie a global phenomenon.
Now, amid the roaring success of Dhurandhar, director Kunal Kohli has showered praises on the makers of the film and also revealed how the biggest of the filmmakers hoped the Ranveer Singh starrer would flop on the first Monday of its release.
Kunal Kohli on Dhurandhar`s success
In a candid conversation with Screen, the filmmaker elaborated, "Even when the industry doesn`t support a film, the film still works. Nobody supported Dhurandhar." The biggest directors I spoke to said, `Monday ko baith jayegi. Monday ko aur chal gayi` (It will stop performing from Monday). But instead, it started working better from Monday."
The Fanna director then took to social media and penned a rather long note, congratulating the makers of the movie and calling out Bollywood for not showing enough support when needed.

He continued, "The important parts of the film that I would like to highlight about this film and what it has done: it has shown us the true potential of the Indian box office." Phenomenal. It has shown us that desi subjects and stories work like nothing else. Let`s not be influenced by Western subjects and ideas; let`s make desi films."
"Heroes ko mard hona chahiye. Hindi films ke heroes ko mard hona chahiye. Not some lost, confused boy. That`s what Saiyaara was. That`s what Dhurandhar is. Look at the numbers. Genuine collection," he added.
Kunal Kohli concluded the video by saying, "Fake collections kar ke bhi, you are not doing 100 crores for the entire lifetime collection of your film." This is doing 100 crores a day with genuine collections. Thank you, Aditya Dhar, Ranveer Singh, and Jio Studios, for showing us the way and the potential of our cinema."
