Koffee With Karan 8: Sunny Deol Called Akshay Kumar to Avoid Clash with OMG 2

The recent episode of Koffee With Karan 8 is out and it features the Deol brothers speak candidly about various facets of their life. The much-awaited second episode marks the first time for the two to appear on the much popular.
Apart from spilling some beans about things from the past, Sunny Deol recounted the success of Gadar 2. Karan Johar brought in the topic and congratulated him on the massive blockbuster that Gadar 2 became. Speaking about the same, Sunny Deol revealed how he had reached out to Akshay Kumar asking him to avoid the clash of OMG 2 and Gadar 2.
Sunny revealed how he wanted to have a singular release and not have any other film to eat up the business of his film. He feared that as he had not had a successful film in quite some time, it would be even more difficult if there are two films clashing.
He said, "I thought my film is releasing and I have not had a success for donkey`s years. I didn not want anybody else to come along with it. Well, you can`t stop anybody. So, obviously it does hurt you. But then I was like, does it matter? Let`s go along with it. Eventually both films went on to do well."

Karan asked him if he discussed the clash with Akshay Kumar who starred in OMG 2. To that, Sunny Deol replied, "Obviously, I asked him. I said, ‘Please don’t do it if it’s in your hands. But he said, `No, the studios and all`. And they said that two films can release. I said, `Okay go ahead.` I can just request, I can`t do anything more than that."
The rest is history. Gadar 2 became the second highest grosser of 2023, breaking many records. It pulled the masses back to the theatres who just wanted to see Sunny Deol`s action on the big screens. It did a box-office collection of over Rs 686 crore.
OMG 2 also turned out to be a success and found its own audience who loved the subject matter and the performance of Pankaj Tripathi. It did a business of Rs 151 crore at the box-office.
The second episode of Koffee With Karan 8 with Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol can be watched on Disney Hotstar. New episodes release every thursday.
