Independence Day 2023: 5 Movies That Showcased The Forgotten Heroes

-

There are enough and more movies on celebrated Indian heroes. From Mahatma Gandhi to Bhagat Singh, everyone knows their massive contribution to India's freedom. But seldom do we know about the unsung heroes who martyred themselves without asking for anything. No name, zero fame, and only love for their nation were enough for them to cross boundaries for India's independence.

On August 15, India will celebrate its 77th Independence Day. Bollywood is now moving to essay stories on unsung and forgotten heroes in India's battle for freedom. While some used lathi and kalam, others preferred to challenge the enemies in their own way. These unsung heroes and their sacrifice have saved India from becoming a victim of several brutal wars.

On Independence Day 2023, let's take you through some of the Bollywood movies that showcased forgotten heroes. They may not have been named in history, but history is certainly incomplete without them.

1. Sehmat, Raazi

If you haven't seen Raazi yet, we urge you to read the book it is based on first. Adapted from Harinder Sikka's Calling Sehmat, Raazi is based on a girl's life who decides to leave everything back in India and start a new life in Pakistan. She marries a Pakistani army officer only to pass on vital and sensitive information to India to save it from the brutal plan Pakistan has been planning.

Alia Bhatt played the role of Sehmat beautifully, and she nailed every aspect of her journey. While there are several instances that are changed from the book, Raazi stands out to celebrate the valuable contribution of Sehmat.

2. Udham Singh, Sardar Udham

Think of someone who can do justice to a long-lost, forgotten hero think of Vicky Kaushal. The actor's attention to detail to elaborately showcase Udham Singh's contribution to India's freedom can never be forgotten. If you haven't watched this masterpiece, add it to your long weekend binge-watch list.

3. Havildar Ishar Singh, Kesari

If you think religious gurus had nothing to do with helping India attain independence, watch Kesari. Akshay Kumar starrer showcased the power of Sikhs who fought the ruthless Pashtun invaders. While the enemies were a force of 10,000 Pshtuns, there were only 21 Sikhs who fought till their last breath. This was the greatest war of all time.

4. Tanhaji, Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior

This one dates back to the fearless era of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. For the uninformed, Tanhaji was Shivaji Maharaj's trusted right hand. However, when the Mughals conquer the Kondhana fort, Tanhaji sets out to reclaim it for his king and the country.

Ajay Devgn played the unsung warrior, while Sharad Kelkar was seen as the glorious Chhatrapati.

5. The Ghazi Attack

Every war that was won was a collective effort, and The Ghazi Attack is the perfect example of teamwork. The war was almost on the verge of beginning when India and Pakistan were involved in a deadly underwater duel. The movie is inspired by the mysterious sinking of the PNS Ghazi during the Indo-Pak War of 1971.

Radio City wishes all proud Indians a very happy Independence Day 2023. Jai Hind!
