The Golden Globes 2024 have taken over the internet by storm. With many incredible performances sweeping away the award, and much deservingly so, what actually made headlines was the Suits reunion. The popular Netflix series continues to be a raging hit among binge-watchers. At the same time, it was the Dutchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle, who turned down the invitation.

Former actress and Dutchess of Sussex Meghan Markle was an integral part of Suits. She played the character of Rachel Zane, a paralegal who goes on to save the firm with her never-give-up attitude.

The main cast of Suits had a little reunion at the Golden Globes. Former cast members like Patrick J. Adams, Gabriel Macht, Sarah Rafferty, and Gina Torres were seen on the stage to present the best TV drama award.

Here's why Meghan Markle wasn't seen at the Golden Globes in 2024

The former actress and Dutchess of Sussex was invited to join the former cast of the web series but turned it down. The last season of Suits aired in January 2019, which largely focused on Harvey Spectre and Donna's relationship.

A source close to the development revealed the real reason why Meghan skipped the event and said, 'We asked the duchess, but we were told that, unfortunately, she had a previous commitment.'

Before their on-air reunion, Gina Torres revealed Markle had not been a part of the cast's text group, which was formed after the show's renewed interest.

'When it all came through, we were all texting each other. Yes, our text thread is insane right now. So it's very exciting," Torres told Variety Sunday.

When asked if Meghan, who played Rachel Zane from 2011 to 2018 in the show, was also a part of the group, she said, 'We don't have her number. We just don't. So she'll see she'll watch. She'll be happy that we're here."

Surprisingly, the Dutchess is still in touch with some of her castmates from Suits. She is friendly with Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulson) and Patrick Adams (Mik Ross). Meghan Markle even invited her co-stars, Adams, Raffery, Torres, Macht, and Rick Hoffman, to her lavish wedding with Prince Harry.

During the end of 2023, Suits suddenly piqued the interest of several viewers. It popped off the streaming services and crossed over 45 billion minutes of streaming on Netflix and Peacock combined.

Meghan Markle attended Variety's Power of Women last year, where she was asked about the massive revival of the show. Smiling, she said, 'Isn't that wild?'

'It was great to work on, with such a great cast and crew. We had a really fun time. I was on it for seven seasons, so quite a bit. But it's hard to find a show you can binge-watch that many episodes of these days, so that could have something to do with it. But good shows are everlasting,' she further added.
