Get your wands ready! After much anticipation, HBO has officially revealed the first wave of actors joining its upcoming Harry Potter television series. This exciting announcement confirms the casting for several beloved Hogwarts staff members, marking a significant step forward for the project aiming to bring J.K. Rowling`s magical world back to the screen in a new format.
The complex role of Potions Master Severus Snape will be tackled by Paapa Essiedu ("I May Destroy You", "Gangs of London"), an actor whose name had previously surfaced in casting discussions. Rounding out this core group is fan-favourite comedian Nick Frost ("Shaun of the Dead", "Hot Fuzz"), who will bring the loveable half-giant Rubeus Hagrid to life.

The casting news doesn`t stop there. Luke Thallon (known for stage work like "Leopoldstadt" and "Patriots") joins in the recurring role of Professor Quirinus Quirrell, a character pivotal to the early story. Additionally, British comedy legend Paul Whitehouse ("The Fast Show", "Harry & Paul") will appear as the grumpy caretaker, Argus Filch.
These confirmations end weeks of speculation and mark the first official actors attached to the highly anticipated series.
Showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod expressed their enthusiasm in a joint statement. “We are happy to announce the casting of John Lithgow, Janet McTeer, Paapa Essiedu, Nick Frost, Luke Thallon and Paul Whitehouse to play Dumbledore, McGonagall, Snape, Hagrid, Quirrell and Filch,” they shared. “We’re delighted to have such extraordinary talent onboard, and we can’t wait to see them bring these beloved characters to new life.”
