Don 3: New Era, New Cast, But Will SRK and Priyanka Return?

The much-awaited action thriller, Don 3, is finally back on track. After a series of delays, director Farhan Akhtar is set to begin filming in January 2026 with Ranveer Singh stepping into the iconic titular role. The film, which introduces a new era for the beloved franchise, will also star Kiara Advani as the female lead and is slated for a December 2026 release.
The journey to this point has been a long one, but for fans, the wait might just be worth it, especially with sensational reports of a massive superstar crossover.
Unpacking the Production Delays
The film`s schedule faced significant hurdles. A source close to the project explained the reasons for the postponement. “Yes, there’s been a delay—but it couldn’t be helped. Ranveer Singh, who replaced Shah Rukh Khan in the franchise, had to deal with a wave of online trolling for ‘daring’ to step into SRK’s shoes. Farhan and Ranveer mutually decided to lie low and let the heat die down."
The source added that scheduling conflicts and personal milestones also played a part. “After that, Kiara Advani—who was signed on to replace Priyanka Chopra as the female lead—got pregnant. Farhan had to halt the film’s progress due to her changed circumstances." Furthermore, Farhan Akhtar was deeply involved with his acting role in the war film 120 Bahadur. With these obstacles now cleared, the path is set for production.

A Star-Studded Extravaganza on the Cards
What’s generating the most excitement are the rumours of a monumental casting coup. Reports suggest that the original Don, Shah Rukh Khan, will make a special cameo appearance. According to a source, "Not much is known about the part. However, Farhan Akhtar reportedly reached out to SRK and narrated the character and the story around him... he’s agreed to do it."
Adding another layer of intrigue, “There is a possibility that Priyanka Chopra may return to the Don franchise." If these reports hold true, audiences could witness a spectacular reunion of SRK and Priyanka after 15 years, passing the baton to the new generation. The film also features the talented Vikrant Massey, reuniting with Ranveer Singh after their previous collaborations in Dil Dhadakne Do and Lootera.
While the makers remain tight-lipped, these developments promise a cinematic event that could bring together multiple generations of Bollywood royalty.
