Diljit Dosanjh and Hania Amir in Sardaar Ji 3
Singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh finds himself at the centre of a storm following the trailer release of his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3. The decision to cast Pakistani actor Hania Aamir as the leading lady has triggered significant online backlash, especially given the recent spike in tensions between India and Pakistan. The film is notably skipping a theatrical release in India, opting for an overseas-only release on June 27.
Disappointed fans and critics have been vocal about their feelings. On Reddit, one user wrote, "Never spoke a word during the war…now we know why…I liked him, but the opinion is now changing highly." Another comment read, "You can’t expect anything better from Diljit. He has always been very clear about his ideologies." The sentiment was echoed by others, with one person stating, "Never liked him, never will. Disgusted by him."
The criticism intensified on X (formerly Twitter), where users pointed to Aamir`s alleged anti-India remarks following "Operation Sindoor." An X user commented, "So now Diljit drops a trailer with Hania Aamir, the same actress who called Operation Sindoor `sinister`? No outrage. No boycott. Just vibes?" Another user called the casting "absolutely disgraceful," urging for a boycott.

The film, a horror-comedy directed by Amar Hundal, features Diljit and Hania as ghost hunters. Despite the brewing controversy, Dosanjh has continued to promote the film, sharing the trailer and a new song, "Sohni Lagdi," featuring him and Aamir.
This collaboration follows a history of friendly exchanges between the two stars. Last year, Aamir attended Dosanjh`s concert in London, where he gave her a shout-out from the stage, which went viral on social media. However, the current political climate has cast a long shadow over their professional pairing, reigniting the debate on cultural exchanges between India and Pakistan, especially after the 2016 Uri attack led to a ban on Pakistani artists in Indian films by the Indian Motion Picture Producers Association (IMPPA).

A Controversial Casting Choice
The announcement has not sat well with a segment of the audience, who are ‘disgusted’ by the collaboration. This comes just two months after the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir`s Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, and the subsequent "Operation Sindoor," the retaliatory air missile strikes by Indian armed forces on May 7, 2025. Many have taken to social media to express their disapproval, with the conversation gaining momentum on platforms like Reddit. An Overseas-Only Release
In an apparent move to sidestep controversy on home ground, the makers of Sardaar Ji 3 have decided against releasing the film in India.
