Hollywood Pays Tribute To Late Filmmaker David Lynch
One of the finest filmmakers and a Hollywood icon, David Lynch passes away at 78. Last year, he was diagnosed with emphysema after being a lifetime chain smoker and revealed he would not be able to step out of the house to direct films anymore.
His family shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, writing, “There’s a big hole in the world now that he’s no longer with us. But, as he would say, ‘Keep your eye on the doughnut and not on the hole.’”
Now, the entire Hollywood community, including director Steven Spielberg, came forward to pay tribute to Lynch and his remarkable contribution to the American film industry. While some appreciated his art, others shared some heartwarming memories.
“I loved David’s films. ‘Blue Velvet,’ ‘Mulholland Drive,’ and ‘Elephant Man’ defined him as a singular, visionary dreamer who directed films that felt handmade,” he said.
Steven Spielberg further added, “I got to know David when he played John Ford in ‘The Fabelmans.’ Here was one of my heroes—David Lynch playing one of my heroes. It was surreal and seemed like a scene out of one of David’s own movies. The world is going to miss such an original and unique voice. His films have already stood the test of time, and they always will.”
American film producer Ron Howard called David Lynch “a gracious man and fearless artist who followed his heart & soul and proved that radical experimentation could yield unforgettable cinema” in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
He was nominated for the Best Director Oscar thrice for “The Elephant Man,” “Blue Velvet," and “Mulholland Drive." In 2019, he received the Academy Honorary Award for his contributions to the cinema.
Radio City extends heartfelt condolences to the filmmaker`s family. Rest in peace, legend. You will be missed.
