November 26 marks yet another historical date as we celebrate the Constitution Day of India. Also known as `Samvidhan Divas`, this day is observed to commemorate the adoption of Indian constitution, which came into force on January 26.
On august 5, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, took a visionary decision to abrogate the Article 370, thus giving Jammu and Kashmir a special status amid the ongoing tensions in the valley.
For the uninitiated, the first assembly election was held this year after the abrogation of Article 370, a bold move by the Modi government that changed the fate of the valley.

1. Article 370 came into force following the signing of the "Instrument of Accession" by Maharaja Hari Singh of Kashmir in 1947.
2. It was Sheikh Abdullah to draft the provision in 1947, who had by then been appointed as the prime minister of Jamuu and Kashmir by Maharaja Hari Singh and Jawaharlal Nehru. He served as the PM of JnK from 1948–53 and then went on to become the chief minister from 1975–82.

3. According to the Constitution of India, Article 370 provides the union territory temporary provisions, granting it special autonomy.
4. The article further states that the provisions of Article 238, which was omitted from the Constitution during the reorganization of Indian states, shall not apply to Jammu and Kashmir.
5. Did you know, Dr. BR Ambedkar, who was the principal drafter of the Constitution of India, had refused to draft Article 370?
6. Under Article 370, the Center has no power to declare a financial emergency under Article 360 in the union territory. An emergency in Jammu and Kashmir can only be declared in case of war or external aggression.
7. The original draft of Article 370 states, "The Government of the State means the person for the time being recognized by the President as the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir acting on the advice of the Council of Ministers for the time being in office under the Maharaja`s Proclamation dated the fifth day of March, 1948."
