Chiranjeevi
Veteran Telugu actor Chiranjeevi, father of RRR star Ram Charan, has found himself at the centre of controversy after making a remark that many have labelled misogynistic. The incident took place at the pre-release event of Brahma Anandam, where Chiranjeevi was the chief guest. While playfully expressing his wish for a grandson to carry forward his family legacy, his comments did not sit well with many, leading to widespread criticism.
Ram Charan and his wife, Upasana Konidela, welcomed their daughter, Klin Kaara, in 2023. Chiranjeevi’s statement, which hinted at a preference for a male grandchild to continue his legacy, did not go down well with audiences. Many social media users criticised the actor for reinforcing outdated gender biases.

Another user commented, “The post highlights an issue that`s unfortunately still prevalent in 2025. It`s disheartening to see someone of Chiranjeevi`s stature perpetuate outdated gender biases. The obsession with a male heir is not only disappointing but also a reflection of a societal mindset that needs urgent change.”
Chiranjeevi is a father to three children—Ram Charan and daughters Sreeja Konidela and Sushmita Konidela. His daughters have also embraced motherhood, with Sreeja having two daughters, Naviksha and Nivrati, and Sushmita being a mother to Samara and Samhitha. The irony of his statement did not go unnoticed by critics, who pointed out that his own daughters have done well in their respective fields.

Chiranjeevi’s Comment That Sparked Outrage
During the event, Chiranjeevi said, “When I`m at home, it doesn`t feel like I`m surrounded by my granddaughters; it feels like I`m a ladies` hostel warden, surrounded by ladies all around. I keep wishing and telling (Ram) Charan, at least this time, to have a boy so that our legacy continues, but his daughter is the apple of his eye... I`m scared that he might again have a girl.”Ram Charan and his wife, Upasana Konidela, welcomed their daughter, Klin Kaara, in 2023. Social Media Reacts Strongly
Netizens took to social media to express their disappointment. One user wrote, “Dear Chiranjeevi garu, I have respect for you as an actor. However, I would appreciate some clarification on your recent statement. It came across as misogynistic and seemed to imply that a legacy can only be carried forward by a male child or men. Did you truly mean to suggest this? Are you uncomfortable with the possibility of your son and daughter-in-law having another girl child? Or was it ‘remark’ made in ‘jest’ at Brahmanandam’s film event.”Another user commented, “The post highlights an issue that`s unfortunately still prevalent in 2025.
