Emraan Hashmi Reflects on 19 Years of Awarapan, Says Shivam Has Stayed With Him as Sequel Builds Buzz
Actor Emraan Hashmi took a nostalgic trip down memory lane as he celebrated 19 years of his acclaimed film Awarapan. Expressing gratitude for the immense love the film has continued to receive over the years, the actor shared that the character of Shivam has remained a part of him long after the movie`s release.
Marking the milestone, Emraan posted a striking new poster from Awarapan 2 on social media, featuring him reprising his iconic role as Shivam. Along with the image, he shared a heartfelt message thanking fans for keeping the film alive through their unwavering support.
In his note, Emraan wrote that Awarapan has always been more than just a film for him. He said he has carried Shivam with him for the past 19 years and thanked audiences for embracing the character with such warmth. The actor also expressed his happiness at seeing the Awarapan fanbase continue to grow over the years.
His emotional post comes just days after the makers unveiled the first teaser of Awarapan 2 on June 29, coinciding with the 19th anniversary of the original film. The teaser revisits the emotional journey of Shivam Pandit, who continues to grapple with grief while searching for hope and purpose. Adding to the nostalgia, it also features a refreshed version of the beloved song Toh Phir Aao 2.0, composed by Mithoon with lyrics by Sayeed Qadri.
The sequel boasts an ensemble cast including Disha Patani, Shabana Azmi, Surendar Vicky, Vijayant Kohli and Atul Kumar alongside Emraan Hashmi. Produced by Vishesh Bhatt, directed by Nitin Kakkar and written by Bilal Siddiqui, Awarapan 2 is scheduled for a worldwide theatrical release on August 14, 2026.
