Recalling filming the moment that has gone viral, Adiit Rao Hydari said, “I am thanking everybody. That walk—just that little tukda from Thumri—is all over the internet. I really didn’t expect that, and Sanjay sir did say, ‘Ye chaal bahut important hai (This walk is very important).’ He has so much knowledge, so he was very much involved in the making of the song.”

She also mentioned how Sanjay Leela Bhansali was intricately and actively a part of every little movement, including the movement of the dupatta, which should match the rhythm of her steps.

“Kruti Mahesh was there choreographing, but he was completely involved in every detail of the choreography, and he was very particular about this walk and how it should happen: how will the dupatta fall, how will the waist move, exactly when will the ‘chan’ sound be heard... It was quite incredible,” the actress added.

According to Kamasutra, elephants are considered to have “unrestrained raw sexual power." A female elephant, or hastini, is a symbol of lust, as she can draw male elephants to her effortlessly.

The Gaja Gamini walk also finds a mention in the Hindu mythology saga, Mahabharat. Queens like Draupadi, who were volumnious yet graceful, were metaphorically compared with the grace of a female elephant and swans.

Before the Heeramandi actress, it was Madhubala and Madhuri Dixit who showcased the elegant walk on celluloid.
