Mahashivratri 2024: Shankar Mahadevan Composes And Sings `Devadhi Dev` Penned By Devendra Fadnavis

Recently, on the occasion of Mahashivratri 2024, Grammy-winning singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan gave his voice to a song named 'Devadhi Dev.' The lyrics for this devotional song were penned by Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Amruta Fadvanis, Devendra Fadnavis's wife, also provided the supporting vocals for this song.

The Deputy CM shared that 'Devadhi Dev' is an offering to Lord Shiva to celebrate his glory on Mahashivratri. This day is celebrated all over India to commemorate the union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

This was the day when Lord Shiva performed Tandava after being furious.

Shankar Mahadevan Gives a Beautiful Melody to Devendra Fadnavis' Lyrics

While talking about 'Devadhi Dev' and its birth, Shankar Mahadevan shared, 'It's an honour to musically embellish and sing 'Devadhi Dev,' written so beautifully by Devendra.

All the attributes of Lord Shiva are woven perfectly for a composer to bring out devotional aspects from the music.

Devendra Fadnavis Talks About His Inspiration Behind the Lyrics

The Deputy Chief Minister talked about his inspiration behind writing the lyrics for his song. He shared that his family has been worshipping Shiva and celebrating Mahashivratri since his childhood, and these practices had a huge impact on his upbringing.

He said, 'The attributes of Shiva and the stories from the Shiva Purana have had a great impact on me since then.'

He revealed that the words came to him naturally one day while he was travelling sometime last year. His wife, Amruta Fadnavis, who is a popular singer, recognised the potential of the lyrics and encouraged her husband to make them into a song.

Devendra Fadnavis shared, 'Being a singer, my wife Amruta realised the potential in it as a song and immediately shared it with Shankar. I am happy that Shankar agreed to compose it and sang it so beautifully. Happy to have Amruta singing a small part in it too.'

Along with Shankar Mahadevan, Amruta Fadnavis has also lent her voice to the beautiful composition. She can be heard chanting the meditative Mahamrityunjaya mantra in her melodious voice.

While talking about her expectations about her latest song, Amruta expressed, ''Devadhi Dev' is a beautiful song, and I hope this song becomes a part of our Mahashivratri celebration in India.'

The song was released on all music streaming platforms on March 6, under the label of Times Music. The song has already garnered more than a million views on YouTube within a single day.
