This is the year to re-elect your government, as Lok Sabha elections are ongoing. With the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress going aggressively against each other, there are many Indian actors who are joining forces with their favorite political parties, thus kickstarting their constitutional careers. One of them is Heeramandi fame Shekhar Suman.

The veteran actor became one of the stars who hopped on the bandwagon and joined hands with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The leaders were felicitated and welcomed by the party at its Delhi headquarters on Tuesday.

Alongside Shekhar Suman, ex-Congress member Radhika Khera also quit the Rahul Gandhi-led party and decided to support the Modi government. She resigned from Congress, citing harassment by the leaders.

Shekhar Suman joins the BJP

The veteran actor, who recently made his glorious comeback with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi, called his decision to join politics an impulsive move.

Releasing a statement after joining the BJP, Shekhar said, "Till yesterday, I did not know that I would be sitting here today because many things in life happen knowingly or unknowingly. I have come here with very positive thinking, and I would like to thank God that he ordered me to come here."

This comes amid the ongoing Lok Sabha 2024 polls. However, it remains unclear whether he will be contesting elections in the future or not. A video of him being welcomed by the political party has been doing the rounds on the internet.

For the uninitiated, this isn't Shekhar Suman's first political stint. Back in 2009, the Dekh Bhai Dekh actor contested the Lok Sabha elections from Patna Sahib on a Congress ticket. However, he was brutally defeated by the BJP's Shatrughan Sinha.

Radhika Khera calls Congress 'anti-Hindu'

As the ex-Congress leader quit the political party, she criticized and slammed the Rahul Gandhi-led government, calling them 'anti-Hindu' and 'anti-Ram.' She was the national coordinator for the Congress's media department.

In her resignation letter presented to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Radhika said she faced opposition from the leaders when visiting the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.

"The manner in which I was misbehaved with on the land of Kaushalya Mata for being a devotee of Ram and for having darshan of Ram Lalla, I would not have been able to reach here if I had not gotten the protection of the BJP government, the Modi government. Today's Congress is not Mahatma Gandhi's Congress it is an anti-Ram, anti-Hindu Congress," Khera said after joining the BJP.
