India Simulates Space—On Earth

ISRO has built a Moon- and Mars-like habitat named ‘HOPE’ at Tso Kar in Ladakh—15,000 feet above sea level.

What Is ‘HOPE’?

HOPE stands for "Habitat Onsite Prototype for Exploration"—a facility to mimic extreme space environments on Earth.

Why Ladakh?

The dry, high-altitude, and barren terrain of Tso Kar closely resembles the surface of the Moon and Mars, making it ideal for simulations.

Training Ground for Space Missions

HOPE will allow scientists and astronauts to practice survival, conduct experiments, and test technologies before real missions.

Built With Local Support

Developed in partnership with the Indian Army and Ladakh authorities, the station reflects India`s growing space capabilities.
