Fertility wellness: 8 things to know
What is fertility wellness?
Fertility wellness is caring for your reproductive health. Healthy habits can support your body, but they can`t guarantee pregnancy or replace treatment.
Understand your menstrual cycle
Tracking periods can help you understand your cycle. Frequently irregular or missing periods deserve medical attention, especially when planning pregnancy.
Choose a balanced meal
Create meals with vegetables, fruit, whole grains, pulses, nuts & protein sources. No seed mixture or “fertility diet” has been proven to guarantee conception.
Move regularly, avoid extremes
Be active with walking, swimming or cycling. Being significantly underweight or overweight can affect fertility; don`t follow crash diets or exhausting workout.
Plan folic acid before pregnancy
If you could become pregnant, take 400 micrograms of folic acid daily, starting before conception. It helps prevent certain birth defects.
Make healthier lifestyle choices
Smoking can harm fertility in both genders. Avoid recreational drugs or alcohol when trying for pregnancy. Ask a healthcare professional for support.
Care for your emotional wellbeing
Trying to conceive can feel emotionally demanding. Talking to a trusted person or counsellor may help you cope. “Just relax” is not a treatment.
Know when to seek help
Seek evaluation after 12 months of trying if under 35, or 6 months at 35–40. Over 40, seek advice promptly. Get help sooner for irregular periods.
