A Look At Dharmendra`s Political Career
Dharmendra`s political stint
Though very brief, Dharmendra had an interesting political career run filled with bouquets and several accomplishments.
He served as a Bhartiya Janata Party`s (BJP) MP from Bikaner in the 14th Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009. However, his attendance was low.
His political inspiration
The veteran actor was inspired by the late Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and was encouraged to join politics by Lal Krishna Advani.
Riding on his immense fame as an actor, Dharam Paaji defeated congress candidate Rameshwar Lal Dudi by around 60,000 votes.
However, he did not contest the 2009 polls and preferred to stay away from politics. His son, Sunny Deol, and wife, Hema Malini, joined BJP later.
Once in 2019, Dharmendra said, “We don`t know the ABC of politics but patriotism is in our blood, we will serve the nation. Sunny will also serve the nation"
Deol family`s political wins
Sunny Deol once won from Gurdaspur, while Hema Malini won thrice in Mathura.
