All About COVID-19 JN.1 Variant
Covid-19 resurgence
Coronavirus has struck back in many Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand. There are some spikes in Covid-19 cases in India too.
What is the new Covid variant?
The new COVID-19 variant, JN.1, is a descendant of the Omicron lineage. It has the ability to transmit faster and more efficiently with over 30 mutations.
Whom is it affecting?
According to leading medical experts, the COVID-19 cases are rising due to lower immunity, especially with the elderly or those with comorbidities.
Did COVID-19 really disappear?
A leading doctor said, "COVID-19 has never truly disappeared — it has lingered in an endemic form, occasionally causing local or regional outbreaks."
What are the symptoms of JN.1?
The symptoms are similar to those of COVID-19, such as sore throat, fever, runny or clogged nose, dry cough, exhaustion, headache, and loss of taste or smell.
Will it affect your immunity?
While it retains the immune evasion features of its parent, the JN.1 has now mutated to spread more effectively.
Precautions to avoid COVID-19 JN.1
The precautionary measures are similar to those during the early pandemic. Wash your hands, wear a mask, practice good hygiene, and avoid overly crowded places.
