Seven Bollywood Sequels that Were More Successful than their Prequels

The first ABCD comprised of lesser known faces, yet it managed to rake in the moolah because it was the first Indian dance film in 3D format. The sequel starring Varun Dhawan and Shraddha Kapoor, only made the franchise, bigger and better.

Tanu Weds Manu in 2011 was largely responsible for bringing Kangana Ranauts career back on track. But with the superhit sequel in 2015, Kangana broke box-office records and even went on to pick up her third National Award for Best Actress.

The first Aashiqui starring Rahul Roy and Anu Agarwal was a moderately successful musical in 1990. Aashiqui 2 sarring Aditya Roy Kapoor and Shraddha Kapoor, packed in a brilliant musical score with an affable chemistry among the leads, which went on to become the surprise hit of 2013.

Dabanng 2, which released in 2012 created new box-office records for Salman Khan, who had already created ripples with the 2010 prequel.

Lage Raho Munnabhai in 2006 carried forward the supremacy of the ever-so-lovable Munnabhai and Circuit. Featuring the Father of the Nation in a special role, this sequel to the 2003 film, Munnabhai MBBS, was easily one of the finest films, weve seen till date.

Dhoom 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, was released in 2006 and was a hugely successful sequel to the 2004 hit, Dhoom.

Krrish managed to create the first original Indian superhero. Superlatively played by Hrithik Roshan, the movie, a 2006 sequel to the 2003 hit, Koi Mil Gaya broke new grounds in terms of technology and box-office success.

Recreating the magic of a successful movie with a sequel is a task, Bollywood does not get right often. But these seven Bollywood sequels managed to break box-office records and were much better movies than their prequels. Take a look.
