As the Gujarat government encourages more cinematic tourism, the policy aims to make the state a better and more attractive place for Bollywood filmmakers. Amidst this move, lets see five blockbuster Bollywood movies shot in Gujarat. Lagaan to Kai Po Che, see which movie was shot where.
1. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
The Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial was shot in the magnificent Vijay Valas Palace in Mandvi, Gujarat. The Salman Khan-Aishwarya Rai starrer also shows glimpses of rich Gujarati culture, like celebrating Makar Sankranti, the kite festival.Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam's song Dholi Taro Dhol Baje continues to be a go-to Garba song.
2. Kai Po Che
Kai Po Che marked the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput's Bollywood debut. The film was based on the Hindu-Muslim riots in Gujarat and was shot in places like Vadnagar, Ahmedabad, and Diu.In fact, the song Shubhaarambh is mostly sung in Gujarati to give the authentic garba feel.
3. Lagaan
Bollywood's first ever movie based on cricket showed some beautiful glimpses of Kunariya village near Bhuj. Lagaan also includes popular landmarks like the Vijay Villas Palace and Prag Mahal.
4. Golion Ki Rasleela Ram Leela
The Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh starrer became a massive blockbuster. Ram Leela was filmed in the pastoral zones of Kutch. Some parts of it were also filmed in Rajasthan's Udaipur.
