20 Indie Acts you must know!

With music that hits both the head and the heart, the Guwahati based Lucid Recess came into being in 2004. Their soundscape is a mix of simplistic rhythms, aptly synergized with guitar and drums. This is evident in Tribe, their latest single from their debut album Engraved Invitation.

A livewire three-piece garage rock band, Skrat is based in Chennai. It features TT Sriram on guitar and vocals, Satish Narayanan on bass and backing vocals and Tapass Naresh on drums and backing vocals. Feted as one of the most energetic bands from down south, they have an album Bring Out The Big Guns to their credit.

Formed in 2008 by Akhu Chingangbam with Sachin Angom and Riki Chingangbam, Imphal Talkies released its debut album Tiddim Road in 2009. The band has only created waves ever since and is one of the most revered band from the north-east.

The three-piece electro rock act Laxmi Bomb is one cracker of a band. As per the band, their music is a blend of traditional and urban music. Something like Bollywood music of the 90s with English words and electronic grooves.

Formed in 2011, Ganesh Talkies blends alt-rock, reggae, ska and pop in a funky, twisted manner, thats all inspired from cinema. Their songs tell stories that are high on drama, and make for a great nights theme.

Speaking of The Lightyears Explode, the first thing that comes to mind is the gory man on the cover of their album The Revenge of Kalicharan. Such has been the impact of this three-piece garage punk band from Mumbai.

Kolkata based singer-songwriter, Nischay Parekh also fronts the band The Monkey In Me. His debut album Ocean came by in 2013, featuring songs like I Love You Baby and Panda amongst others.

Based in New Delhi, Prateeks folksy soft pop rock makes every music lover want for more. His debut album In Tokens and Charms was launched in January 2015, making him one of the most sought-after musician of the times.

Rohit Vasudevan Diaries is a collaboration of four musicians that includes Rohit Vasudevan on guitars and vocals, Hardik Vaghela on keyboards and backing vocals, Saket Rao on Drums and Hemant Aligi on the bass. A band that speaks the language of funky rhythms combined with melody, their music is a synergy of the members experiences.

Sohrab Nicholson, is a name thats synonymous with electronica. A singer-songwriter based in Mumbai, his enthralling tunes from his two EPs, For What and Cold Water are proof enough of the mans talent.

Hailing from Meerut, Max Godman aka Manan Gupta is a percussive guitarist. Famed for creating sheer magic with his guitar riffs, before you attend his live act, make sure you listen to his album Dear Mother that was launched in 2013.

David Abraham started out with his bedroom project that later transformed into a five piece band called Koniac Net in 2012. Their debut album, "One Last Monsoon created waves not just in India but also across borders.

Infused with Urdu and Kashmiri lyrics, Parvaazs musicscape is a fine blend of rock, blues and psychedelia. The band was formed in 2010 by Khalid Ahmed and Kashif Iqbal. Presently, a four piece band, it was Parvaazs single Khufiya Dastan that shot them to fame.

Spud in the BoxA six piece alternative/pop rock band from Mumbai, Spud in the Box boasts of some major fan base across the country. A few singles here and there, it was SITBs EP, Attention Please that created a rage.

Sanaya Ardeshir aka Sandunes debut on the indie music scene came by when she opened for Delhi EDM artiste Dualist Inquiry in 2012. Her debut album, Ever Bridge, was launched in September 2013 that saw her collaborating with biggies like Uday Benegal, Siddharth Basrur and the likes.

Straight out from Dimapur in the north-east, Polar Lights was formed in March 2013. With tracks like A Murder Machine, Pride And Blurry Vision and Bleed Out Loud, heres one band that cannot go unnoticed!

An electro indie band from Chennai, The F 16s music ranges from alternative, electronica to mad garage rock. Formed in August 2012, their first EP Kaleidoscope came by in 2013, garnering them much popularity.

This Sufi ethnic rock band came into being in the year 2008 in Pune. Comprising of six people, five were engineers and one musician, their journey began at a coffee shop, translating into a jam session, that went onto become a full-fledged band. Highway 61 has Hardik Vaghela on piano/ vocals, Rahul Majumdar on bass, Rohit Vasudevan on lead guitars/vocals, Jatin Kale on lead guitars, Anant Joshi on drums, and Mohammad Muneem on lead vocals. Their songs, Umeed, Mukhtalif and Ikebana stand as their claim to fame.

Famed for fusing Saint Kabirs poetic works with pop, rock, fusion and reggae, Neearj Aryas Kabir Caf is a Mumbai based quartet. Featuring Arya as the lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist, Mukund Ramaswamy on violins, Viren Solanki on percussions and drums and Raman Iyer on mandolin the bands high-energy performances are to watch out for.
