As the 6th edition of the annual Radio City Freedom Awards is slated to culminate to the Grand Finale on March 28th, 2019, here’s a recap of the journey so far.

The search for original, homegrown artistes commenced with a set of successful pre-gigs from February 13th, 2019 onwards, and since then the sojourn travelled across the country from Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata and the trail concludes with the Grand Finale in Mumbai, tonight.

Within this period, the RCFA registration phase closed in on an all-time record of 1200 entries, which were then run through the interim jury and finally shortlisted for public and jury voting across six genre-based categories. The voting phase also saw a turnout of over 26,796 votes from fans across the country.

Finally, the month-long trail culminates into a grand celebration of the best of independent music in Mumbai at the Glocal Junction, Worli.

The Grand Finale will witness the best artistes and compositions being crowned alongwith a stellar line-up of performances featuring Antarman, Monica Dogra, Emiway Bantai and DJ Pash. The evening will be hosted by Ramona Arena.

Launched in 2013, Radio City Freedom Awards was an initiative pioneered by Radio City 91.1 FM to acknowledge the credible talent in the Indie music scene. The objective behind these awards was to showcase and recognize the best Indian indie musicians across languages and genres. Since then, established singers and musicians have joined efforts with Radio City 91.1 FM to encourage and nurture young talent in the indie music space. The awards feature performances that are live and do not include backing tracks as witnessed in other music award shows.

Stay tuned to for the final results and event coverage.
