Ganesh Visarjan is the ritual immersion of Lord Ganesha`s idol in water. It may take place after one-and-a-half days, five, seven or 11 days.

Why is Ganesha immersed in water?

Visarjan represents the return of Bappa to the natural elements after his temporary earthly presence. It`s a reminder of impermanent nature of material forms.

The spiritual message of visarjan

Devotees celebrate Ganesha`s arrival with devotion. Then accept his departure with faith, believing his blessings remain even after the physical idol is gone.

Devotees chant “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya”- expression that asks Bappa to return soon the following year.

Why is Anant Chaturdashi important?

Anant Chaturdashi is Bhadrapada`s 14th day of the fortnight. It`s conclusion of Ganpati celebrations. It`s one of the most significant days of the festival.
