Dimple had an Arabic name

As an infant, Dimple Kapadia was given the Arabic name Ameena, meaning "honest" or "trustworthy", by Aga Khan III, though she was never called by it.

Dimple Kapadia`s roots

Dimple was born in Bombay to a Gujarati entrepreneur. Her family belonged to an Ismaili Khoja background embracing Hinduism while respecting the Aga Khan.

Dimple`s family ties

Pakistani singer Faisal Kapadia is her father`s cousin, & her late younger sister, Simple Kapadia, was also an actress and prominent costume designer.

Early marriage

Dimple Kapadia married superstar Rajesh Khanna in March 1973, when she was 16 and he was 15 years.

Acting hiatus

Despite the massive, historic success of Bobby, Dimple chose to quit the film industry for over a decade to raise her daughters, Twinkle and Rinke.

No official divorce

Even though she and Rajesh Khanna separated around 1982/1984 and she moved out with her children, the two never legally filed for divorce.

Shedding the sex symbol image

Kapadia actively pursued challenging parallel & arthouse cinema in the 1990s. She won National Film Award for Best Actress for Rudaali (1992).
