In an exclusive interview with RJ Salil for ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’, Janhvi Kapoor who plays the titular role, spoke about the regimen she had to adopt while shooting for the film, “I had to put on 5 kgs initially which is why my fitness regimen differed from my usual plan. I would just keep eating all day from Gajar Ka Halwa, Lassi, Kulfi, Biryani. I wasn’t able to perform any of the obstacle training tasks for the film as it would make me lose weight. So once I gained weight, I had a month to lose what I had gained. Post that, I was able to do all the hardcore training tasks assigned for the film.”

When asked about whether she has had bitter gourd juice as shown in the film, Janhvi clarified, “I really like bitter gourd juice. It’s made at our home. My mum (late Sridevi) would make us drink it a lot and even dad (Boney Kapoor) has it.”

‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’ marks Janhvi’s second collaboration with Netflix after ‘Ghost Stories’, earlier in January. When asked if she is happy with charting an unusual career path with her initial releases dropping on OTT, Janhvi stated, “Indeed, it’s very different from what I had anticipated. Before the lockdown, we were just a week away from the initial league of promotions for the film, starting with the trailer launch. I was very pumped up and excited to get going. But you have to adapt to the current situation. It is the need of the hour. We are just happy that we have the opportunity to put this film out so that people have the chance to see it. Because we’ve really dedicated everything we can to make this film.”

When asked if she is worries about her looks on-screen, the young actress disapproves and says, “Yes, I realized from my very first film that I have to be mindful about my performances, where am I going right or wrong. I’m not vain about whether my hair is out of place or if I’m looking bad. I would think about how could a scene turn out if I approached it with a different emotion or attitude. The first thought that comes into my mind while watching my performances is where I can improve myself.”
