One week into the release of ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ and it has already clocked over a 100 crores at the box office.
But the pertinent question remains. Did the biopic starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Kiara Advani and Disha Patani justify our expectations? We fear, not. Here’s why.
One, we agree that we were supposed to expect some scoop about his family background. But the very story of his brother Narendra Singh Dhoni was axed for reasons best known to the makers.
Two, why was there no concentration upon Dhoni as the cricketer? There is never a cohesive plot as to how Dhoni rose from a team player to a team leader. In each cricket portion depicted in the film, he is only seen hitting a six. There is never a backstory on his thought-process or his ability to make spot decisions during crucial stages in a match.
Next, speaking of the women in his life, the references are only restricted to two women, whereas there were several link up stories of Dhoni with model Raai Laxmi, Asin and Deepika Padukone. Infact, it is rumoured that he had a massive crush on DPad, which was not seen well by his colleague Yuvraj Singh, who was dating her before her big-screen debut in ‘Om Shanti Om’. Infact, sources suggest that this is where the disagreement between the two had developed.
Not to forget, there were several flaws that were simply alarming. Did anyone notice that Dhoni and Sakshi go on a date to Taj Mahal in ‘Aurangabad’? Really? What was that Neeraj Pandey?
We suppose that the mentioned instances should be enough for you to reason the credibility of the film. To conclude, cricket fans may rejoice, but not fans of Neeraj Pandey’s cinema. This has to be the director’s safest outing, till date.
