When Vishal Bhardwaj spoke up on the failure of Rangoon
Vishal Bhardwaj is among the most important filmmakers working in the film industry right now. Over the years, he has given us many hits, like Maqbool, Omkara, Haider, and Kaminey. His distinct filmmaking style is known to many and loved by all. Apart from that, his music enjoys a separate fanbase.
However, not all of his films have fared well at the box office. Recently, in an interview, he revealed some shocking thoughts about Rangoon, starring Kangana Ranaut, Shahid Kapoor, and Saif Ali Khan.
The film was released way back in 2017 and was met with mixed reviews.
"I should have disowned the film," says Vishal Bhardwaj
Speaking candidly in an interview, he said, "I should have put my foot down in Rangoon and said, I don’t care about the release date. The VFX is not okay in the final scene. There were all kinds of pressures. Everyone’s like, ‘No, it will be a huge loss.` At that time, you should become Sanjay Leela Bhansali; no matter how much loss there is, things wouldn’t go like that."

Further, he said that, like Shekhar Kapur, he should disown Rangoon.
He added, "I should have learned something from Shekhar Kapur and disowned the movie." Along with that, he also revealed that his VFX coordinator for the film ditched him as he went to make his own short film. However, he also clarified that he won`t blame others for his own mistakes.
He also opened up about the budget of the film. "You regret those decisions. I don’t regret my creative thought of Rangoon. It was very pure and very unique. But, of course, if a film that should be made in Rs 70 crore and I have decided to make it in Rs 35 crore, then I am foolish."
Further, Vishal also spoke about how he wanted to make the film 2 States with Shah Rukh Khan, but the project got shelved due to some creative differences between the two. Vishal revealed that the two had differences over the setting of the film, as Vishal didn`t want to set it in a college but in a bank. However, the Pathaan actor wasn`t quite convinced by it.
2 States was later made with Arjun Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in the lead and was directed by Abhishek Varman and produced by Karan Johar`s Dharma Production.
