Netflix has taken the internet by storm after releasing its stellar and encapsulating list of upcoming movies and web series in 2024. While some are highly anticipated, others became controversy's favorite child. One such controversial web series is The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth.

The ary on Indrani Mukerjea is about a media executive's tumultuous life, where she is facing trial for allegedly killing her daughter, Sheena Bora. The docu-series was initially set to release on Netflix on February 23.

Bombay High Court gives a go-ahead for The Indrani Mukerjea Story's release

However, its premiere was put on hold after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) moved the court, saying that the ary might influence the ongoing judicial process. Keeping that in mind, the High Court asked the makers to put the ary's release on hold.

The bench of justices Revati Mohite Dere and Manjusha Deshpande directed the makers of the docu-series to hold a special screening of The Indrani Mukerjea Story: The Buried Truth for CBI.

However, on Thursday, the Bombay High Court gave the go-ahead for its release and rejected the CBI's petition seeking a stay until the trial comes to an end.

In the ary series, Indrani will be seen giving her point of view, digging deeper into the disappearance of Sheena Bora and its aftermath on her life.

In January, Netflix took to social media and announced the release of The Indrani Mukerjea Story. The OTT platform wrote, "A sensational scandal that rocked the entire nation, with one family's darkest secrets at the center of it all. The Indrani Mukerjea Story Buried Truth, coming on February 23 only on Netflix!"

What was the Indrani Mukerjea Story case?

A 24-year-old woman named Sheena Bora mysteriously disappeared on April 24, 2012. It was later found out that she was murdered in Mumbai. She was the daughter of media executive Indrani Mukerjea.

However, for most of her life, she was raised by her maternal grandparents, with Indrani posing as her sister.

While everything was normal, the case garnered eyeballs after Indrani's driver, Shyamvar Rai, confessed her involvement in Bora's murder. This dates back to 2015.

His confession led to several arrests, including those of Indrani Mukerjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna, and her then husband, Peter Mukerjea.

The investigation uncovered a jaw-dropping and shocking web of lies, deceit, and family dynamics. It was later discovered that the purpose of Sheena Bora's murder was financial and personal disputes over property and relationships.
