David Corenswet in Superman
The world has eagerly awaited a fresh take on the Man of Steel, and the wait is nearly over! DC Studios recently dropped a brand new trailer for the upcoming James Gunn film, simply titled Superman. This exciting glimpse offers fans a deeper understanding of the film`s premise, showcasing David Corenswet as he dons the iconic cape. The anticipation is palpable as we prepare to see a new interpretation of this legendary hero, who finds himself in hot water for trying to do good.
The new trailer thrusts viewers straight into the action, opening with Lois Lane (Rachel Brosnahan) conducting a pivotal interview with Superman (David Corenswet). “Recently, you have come under a lot of fire…” she states, highlighting the immense attention his deeds have garnered. His simple, yet profound reply, “My actions? I stopped a war!” sets a dramatic tone. We then see Superman in full costume amidst a battlefield, revealing he "illegally entered a country" to prevent a full-scale conflict.
The crux of Superman`s predicament? He acted unilaterally, without consulting the president or other authorities, driven purely by his intention to do good. The trailer teases the ensuing chaos, including a striking moment where Superman is knocked down, only to be helped up by ordinary citizens. It also gives us our first look at Nicholas Hoult in the sinister role of Lex Luthor, alongside brief appearances of Ultraman and The Engineer (Maria Gabriela de Faria).
The trailer has certainly ignited discussion among fans. One viewer commented, “I liked the shot where a civilian helps Superman get up. The people are there for him when needed.” Another shared, “Superman is just one of those eternally iconic mythological figures, and I think this is the film that will cement his legacy as a character who can stand the test of time. Gunn really gets Superman, and I think all the right cues are taken here.” The enthusiasm is evident, with another fan exclaiming, “WOW! James Gunn understood the assignment! July 11 can`t get here soon enough.” A particular line also resonated, as a fan noted, “`Hey buddy eyes up here` made me smile from ear to ear."
Alongside Corenswet, Brosnahan, and Hoult, the film introduces a host of other DC characters. Edi Gathegi plays Mister Terrific, Nathan Fillion is Guy Gardner of the Green Lantern Corps, Isabela Merced appears as Hawk Girl, and Anthony Carrigan takes on the role of Metamorpho.

Prior to casting Corenswet, Gunn told Variety, “The next Superman has to be someone who has all the humanity that Superman has, but he`s also an alien. It`s got to be somebody who has the kindness and the compassion that Superman has and be somebody who you want to give a hug.” This vision shapes the first film in DCU`s "Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters", previously titled Superman: Legacy.
Filming for Superman wrapped in July 2024, with initial shoots taking place in Svalbard, Norway. Mark your calendars, as Superman is set to soar into theatres on July 11, 2025.
