With rising technology and influence, anything is possible. Sometimes, the features of new-age technology are used for all the wrong reasons by miscreants on the internet. One such case surfaced when a video of Rashmika Mandanna's face went viral recently.
In the video, she is seen exiting an elevator and posing for the video. However, this video is fake and morphed. As pointed out by a user on Twitter, Rashmika's face was inserted over someone else's using AI. This is called deepfake technology.
The Twitter user wrote, "There is an urgent need for a legal and regulatory framework to deal with deep fakes in India. You might have seen this viral video of actress Rashmika Mandanna on Instagram. But wait, this is a deepfake video of Zara Patel."
The original video is of British-Indian model Zara Patel, who shared it on her Instagram on October 9. Reacting to the news, Amitabh Bachchan demanded legal action against the accused. He retweeted the former tweet and wrote, "Yes, this is a strong case for legal".
Netizens have expressed their concern over the
Rashmika Mandanna viral video. One user wrote, "Deepfakes are videos that swap one person's face for another so that people can be shown doing and saying things they didn't say or do. They're now easy to make with free software."
Another user wrote, "Researchers are worried about the fact that humans are apparently unable to tell the difference between a real human being and an AI-powered deepfake.A study was conducted, and the results are quite scary."
This is a troubling development. There has been no reaction from Rashmika Mandanna or the Instagram model to the morphed video.
Rashmika shared the screen space with
Amitabh Bachchan in the 2022 film, Good News. Her performance in the film was well-appreciated.
She will be next seen in Animal alongside Ranbir Kapoor. It is all set to release on December 1. The film is directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Shakti Kapoor in important roles.
