Together with mommy-to-be Sonam Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Sanjay Leela Bansali's "Saawariya" in 2006. Based on Fyodor Dostoevsky's 1848 short story White Nights, the director created the screenplay for the film. Back in 2004, on the set of "Black", Ranbir previously worked with the filmmaker as an assistant director. When questioned about his experience working with Bhansali in an interview, he remarked that it was torturous.

On Neha Dhupia's podcast, No Filter Neha in 2016 Ranbir said, 'He (The director) was a hard task-master and I was kneeling on set, he was beating mehellipafter a point, it got so heavy and I felt so tortured that I had to quit the film at a point...I think it was like 10 or 11 months into my job and I am like ' listen I can't do this, it's getting to me I think I am too sensitive and emotional and he got to know me so well and he kind of kept poking into thathellip he got too much, went crazy as far as I was concerned.'

Appreciating that Ranbir added, 'Having said that I think all the performances that I do in cinema all come from that experience, from him helliphe was a true teacher in that sensehelliphe taught me everything in terms of acting and emotions and stuff like that.'

On the work front, Ranbir will be seen next in Shamshera and Brahmastra. He has also been roped for Luv Ranjan's next along with Shraddha Kapoor.
