Rajkummar Rao to play Sourav Ganguly in his biopic
Imagine this combination of explosive talents – Rajkummar Rao, an incredible actor, meets Sourav Ganguly, one of the finest captains in the history of Indian cricket. The actor will play the role of the legendary cricketer in his upcoming biopic.
After the former cricketer confirmed the news, Rajkummar gave a positive nod and confirmed the reports that have been doing the rounds for a while.
Talking about the much-anticipated biopic, the actor confirmed playing the part and said, "Now that Dada has already said it, let me also make it official – yes, I am playing him in his biopic."
Rao admitted being "extremely nervous" about the role but is equally excited about the challenge to portray Ganguly`s legacy. "I am nervous... It`s a huge responsibility, but it`s going to be a lot of fun," he said.

Speaking with NDTV, he even flaunted his Bengali speaking skills, a language he has picked up over the years, thanks to his wife Patralekhaa. He seemed pretty confident about getting Dada`s signature Bengali accent right on screen.
Sourav Ganguly, one of the most successful cricket captains in the history of Indian cricket, praised the Stree actor and said, "Rajkummar has been locked for the film. I don`t think anyone else can play me better than him. I think the right person is doing it... I`ll help him with everything."
He also revealed that the film is likely to go on floors in January 2026, and the makers aim to release it in cinemas in December the same year.
The former Indian captain, who played between 1992 and 2008, is closely involved in the creative process of making the biopic. It will chronicle his journey from the streets of Kolkata to becoming a legendary name in Indian cricket.
More details about the film, such as storyline, plot, cast, etc., have been kept under wraps. All we know is Vikramaditya Motwane will be directing the biopic, and it will be backed by Luv Films.
This is not the first time that Rajkummar Rao will be playing a real-life character. Previously, he essayed the role of a lawyer-human rights activist, Shahid Azmi, in Shahid; a menacing terrorist, Ahmed Omar Saeed Sheikh, in Omerta; and a visually impaired industrialist, Srikanth Bolla, in Srikanth.
