Rajinikanth’s “Jailer 2”: Becomes 4th highest-grossing Tamil film of all time
A movie that hasn’t left the headlines ever since its release? Well, it has to be “Jailer 2” starring the legend Rajinikanth! The superstar is ruling the box office, and his latest release, “Jailer 2”, has achieved a major milestone within just a week of its theatrical release.
For the unversed, the action entertainer has become the fourth-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time worldwide, surpassing the lifetime collections of “Ponniyin Selvan: I” and Rajinikanth’s own “Coolie”. The film has also emerged as one of the biggest Indian theatrical successes of 2026.
Jailer 2 box office collection
According to trade figures reported by The Hollywood Reporter India and Gulf News, Jailer 2 collected approximately Rs 576.45 crore worldwide by the end of its first week in theatres. Its domestic India collection stood at Rs 317.20 crore net, translating to a gross collection of Rs 371.45 crore. Overseas markets contributed another Rs 205 crore, underlining the film’s strong international appeal. The film’s impressive performance follows a powerful opening at the worldwide box office. It reportedly crossed the Rs 300 crore mark globally in just three days and the Rs 400 crore milestone in four days. Its extended opening weekend also benefited from the festive period, while steady weekday collections helped it maintain momentum.
Adding to that, the 205 crore from overseas brings the worldwide gross of the sequel to 576.45 crore before the end of its first week in theatres. It has now surpassed the 20-day haul of Ajay Devgn’s Drishyam: The Conclusion, which has brought in 560 crore so far, making it the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2026.
The three films currently ahead of Jailer 2 are Rajinikanth’s science-fiction action film 2.0, Vijay’s Leo and the original Jailer. Their reported worldwide collections stand at approximately Rs 691 crore, Rs 605.90 crore and Rs 604.74 crore, respectively. With its latest figures, the sequel is now approaching the lifetime totals of its predecessors and could climb further if its theatrical run continues at the current pace.
