Nag Ashwin Announces That Kalki 2898 AD Sequel to Begin Filming This December

Filmmaker Nag Ashwin has officially confirmed that the much-awaited sequel to Kalki 2898 AD will commence filming in December 2025. In a recent media interaction, the director shared key insights about the film`s next chapter, revealing what fans can expect from the upcoming sci-fi mythological saga.
One of the major discussions around Kalki 2898 AD was Prabhas’ limited screen time, which left many of his fans wanting more. Addressing this concern, Nag Ashwin clarified that the first film was primarily focused on setting the foundation by exploring the backstories of Sumati (Deepika Padukone) and Ashwatthama (Amitabh Bachchan).
The director assured fans that the sequel will place a stronger emphasis on Karna, saying, “The second part will have more of Prabhas, as it will be majorly centred around the Karna and Ashwatthama characters.”
Key plot points are expected in the sequel as Bhairava’s (Prabhas) journey takes centre stage as he`s revealed to be Karna. Ashwatthama’s role expands as Amitabh Bachchan’s character plays a crucial part in the battle ahead.
Both of them together protect SUM-80, played by Deepika Padukone, who is believed to carry the last divine avatar of Lord Vishnu, Kalki. Nag Ashwin also revealed that the sequel is expected to take around three years to complete, making it one of the most ambitious Indian films ever made.
