Mohit Suri on industry`s response on making Saiyaara
Saiyaara has become one of the most anticipated movies of the year, thanks to Mohit Suri`s vision of bringing in two newcomers who feel like a breath of fresh air. But did you know the filmmaker was warned by other contemporaries against making a love story with a youngster?
In a recent interview with Variety, the director opened up about being dissuaded from the industry on making a quintessential romantic drama with a newcomer. Suri recalled they didn`t believe in "young love stories".
Quoting the filmmakers (without naming any names), the Saiyaara director said, "No one`s going to make a youngster, newcomer or love story in this market, in this age where everything has become about the blockbuster, larger-than-life cinema."
Mohit had already written the film by then; however, things changed after Yash Raj Films came onboard as producers. As per him, the production house liked the script and was eager for one such story.

In another interview with Pinkvilla, Mohit Suri had confirmed that he was initially asked to work on Aashiqui 3. He was supposed to collaborate with Bhushan Kumar and Mukesh Bhatt. He also shared that Saiyaara was originally an idea for Aashiqui 3.
"They (Bhushan and Mukesh) were in a hurry and wanted to announce, which is something I was not comfortable with. I prefer having a script first and then making an announcement," Suri shared.
The upcoming romantic saga is produced by YRF`s CEO, Akshay Widhani. Sharing his perception of the film, the producer said, “We were looking to tell a real love story that connects to today’s youth... This collaboration with Mohit Suri was always meant to happen. Saiyaara has all the tropes of the vintage Mohit Suri romance that everyone has loved for over 20 years.”
