In what is a rude shock for millions of ardent Linkin Park fans across the world, lead vocalist Chester Bennington ended his life in his apartment, at the age of 41.
Bennington’s power-backed vocals was what led to the rise of cult rock-rap band in the early 2000s. He was found hanging from the ceiling.
What’s sadder is that the singer was also a close friend of Soundgarden’s Chris Cornell, who also committed suicide, earlier this year. Bennington had sung ‘Hallelujah’ and remembered Cornell during the latter’s funeral. He was also the Godfather to Cornell’s 11 year old son.
"The Cornell family is overwhelmed by the heartbreaking news about Chester Bennington which tragically comes so soon after their family&39;s own loss," said a Cornell family spokesperson. "They open up their loving arms to Chester&39;s family and share in the sorrow with all those who loved him."
The Grammy-Award winning album ‘Hybrid Theory’ by the band sold over 10 million copies since it broke out in 2000. Their 2003 album ‘Meteora’ sold over 6 million copies as well. 1990’s kids looked upto the band as their inspiration and solace.
Bennington is survived by second wife Talinda and their six children Lila, Isaiah, Lily, Tyler, Jaime and Draven.
