Aamir Khan was an exception to having fallen in love twice in his life.
The actor was initially married to Reena Dutta. However, after the two ended their 16-year-long marriage, Aamir Khan found love for the second time in
Kiran Rao, whom he married in 2005. However, the two parted ways in 2021.
Many speculate that it was Kiran Rao who was the actual reason for the actor's divorce from his first wife. However, the director has spoken about the real reason for Aamir's fallout with Reena and claimed that she was never the homewrecker.

Kiran and Aamir met
for the first time on the sets of his film, Lagaan. She was the assistant director on the movie, which left many wondering if this was the beginning of their romantic relationships.
However, in a recent interview with Zoom, Kiran Rao revealed she barely spoke to Aamir Khan on the sets of Lagaan. It was much later that they reconnected and fell in love.

Aamir and I got together during Swades he was going to shoot Mangal Pandey at the time. We had just shot a couple of commercials with Ashutosh Gowariker for Coke, and that is where Aamir and I reconnected. 3-4 years after Lagaan," she said.
Rao further added, "I wasn't in touch with him. In fact, on Lagaan, I barely spoke to him. I was actually seeing somebody else during Lagaan. When Aamir and I started going out in 2004, everybody thought that this started when we were shooting for Lagaan and this caused the divorce, which was not the case.'

Laapataa Ladies director also revealed how the Laal Singh Chaddha actor carried baggage from his previous relationship with Reena Dutta. The couple even sought professional counseling to find neutral ground.
'When you marry someone who has been in another relationship, there is baggage that you bring that will affect your relationship. I strongly recommend couple's counseling. Aamir and I did couple's counseling," she said.

It helped that Aamir and I agreed that we both have to be honest with each other, whatever the case.'
Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao tied the knot in 2005 but called it quits in 2021. They share a son, Azad Rao Khan, who was concieved via IVF.
