According to the report, her tense dispute with her former agency, Gold Medallist, played a significant role in her passing away. The agency had reportedly sent a legal notice to Kim Sae-ron in March 2024, demanding repayment of KRW 686 million (around $473,000 USD) in damages that occurred in 2022 due to her rash drunk driving incident.

The repayment deadline was set as December 31, 2023, with the agency threatening to take civil and legal action against the actress if the amount was not settled in full. Kim Sae-ron, who was the sole earning member of her family, was unable to make ends meet and struggled to meet the demands.

Despite her best efforts to gather the funds, she sold off all the assets, cars, convertible bonds, and more but was only able to collect around KRW 200.

In a distressing situation, the dispatch report revealed that The Man From Nowhere star reached out to Kim Soo-Hyun for financial help, highlighting the desperation and vulnerability she faced at the time.

Wasn’t aware Kim Soo Hyun was the owner of the Gold Medalist agency. An agency known for dumping their actors (especially women) and never protecting them when it matters. Idk what to make of this. It’s very disappointing.

According to the outlet, Kim Sae-ron pleaded, "Oppa, this is Sae Ron. I received the letter of certification today that [your company] is suing me. You said that you would give me ample time, so I’m working hard, preparing to make a comeback. I will pay you back with a percentage for each work. I’m not saying that I won’t pay you back, but if you suddenly ask for KRW 700 million right now, I really can’t do anything. It’s not that I won’t, but I can’t. Do you really have to take it as far as a lawsuit? Please save me… I beg of you. Give me some time."

Kim Sae-ron`s former agency, Gold Medallist, claimed that they never intended to collect the debt from the late actress and that the letter was a mere formality for internal financial ation.

“We had no intentions of receiving money from Kim Sae Ron. We thought we wouldn’t get it. We only followed basic procedures because there could have been a case of malpractice brought up," the agency quoted.

When questioned if Kim Sae-ron was aware that the legal notice was just a formality, the agency failed to give a clear answer.
