Subhash Ghai celebrates 32 years of Khalnayak, hints at a sequel
Subhash Ghai redefined cinema with his notorious criminal drama, Khalnayak. The film placed Sanjay Dutt as one of the most versatile and effortless actors in the industry. And who can forget the iconic Choli Ke Peeche song that showcased Madhuri Dixit`s graceful dancing skills?
The 1993 release completed 32 years of its release today. Subhash Ghai celebrated the same by sharing an unseen picture with Sanjay Dutt and hinted at making a sequel with new and young faces.
He shared his vision of bringing back the cult characters – Ballu Balram, Ganga, and Ram – with a new generation cast, hoping to recreate the same magic it did over three decades ago.
The filmmaker celebrated the milestone and wrote, “Today Ballu Balram is celebrating 32 years of a movie with monumental performances by each character and music as if it were yesterday. Now I can see its huge demand everywhere that Khalnayak should reappear on screen with Ballu Balram, Ganga, and Ram with a young cast in its sequel to create a new magic in cinema never before. My heartiest congratulations to the team of KHALNAYAK for this passionate movie. Bless you all.”
In the photo, Ghai and Dutt can be seen striking a quirky pose together. Both of them twinned in white ensembles and statement black hats. Take a look.

Jackie Shroff, who played the role of fierce Inspector Ram Kumar in Khalnayak, marked the milestone by sharing a thrilling montage of timeless moments from the film. He simply captioned the post, “#32YearsofKhalnayak.”
Helmed by Subhash Ghai and with music composed by the iconic duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, the 1993 cult classic featured Jackie Shroff as Inspector Ram Kumar Singh, Madhuri Dixit as Gangotri Devi, and Sanjay Dutt as the fugitive Balaram Prasad (Ballu).
It also starred Ali Asgar, Rakhee Gulzar, Neena Gupta, and Anupam Kher in pivotal roles.
Khalanayak follows the story of a criminal-cop chase where a determined police force is in pursuit of a menacing malefactor who is on the run. Its impactful performances and gripping narrative cemented its place as a cult classic and went on to become one of Sanjay Dutt`s finest films.
Khalnayak was released on August 6, 1993, and became a massive commercial success. The film is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
