A Quick Dive Back: Jolly LLB & Jolly LLB 2
Let’s rewind. Jolly LLB, released in 2013, introduced us to Jagdish Tyagi (Arshad Warsi), a scrappy, underdog lawyer who takes on a powerful advocate in a hit-and-run case inspired by real events.
Bold, biting, and brimming with satire, it was written and directed by Subhash Kapoor and produced by Fox Star Studios, and it earned around ₹48.7 crore on a modest ₹10 crore budget.
Fast forward to 2017, and Jolly LLB 2 flipped the script with Jagdishwar Mishra (Akshay Kumar) at the centre, fighting a case involving a fake encounter.
Again helmed by Subhash Kapoor, it delivered both critical and commercial success, raking in over ₹200 crore on a ₹45 crore budget, and Saurabh Shukla’s return as Tripathi brought consistency and comic depth.
Both films are celebrated for blending real-life-inspired narratives, courtroom tension, dark humour, and social commentary. Subhash Kapoor’s knack for weaving punchy legal drama into relatable tales is the franchise’s backbone.
Bottom line
The comedy drama isn’t just the next sequel—it’s a hilarious courtroom smackdown years in the making. With two Jollys in the ring, a beleaguered Judge Tripathi, and the sharp writing that’s defined the series, this teaser proves the franchise is still firing on all cylinders.
A treat for long-time fans and perfect for those who love their satire served with a side of legal chaos. Jolly LLB 3 releases on September 19 in cinemas near you.
