JioStar Goes Through Major Rebranding And Sports Portfolio Expansion

JioStar, a joint venture between Reliance Industries, Disney, and Bodhi Tree, is set to make waves in the Indian sports broadcasting industry. The company is undergoing a significant rebranding and expansion of its sports network to strengthen its market presence. This move ensures that Mukesh Ambani-led JioStar remains a strong competitor in India’s sports broadcasting sector.
JioStar’s five existing Sports18 channels will adopt new identities:
Additionally, JioStar will launch HD versions of these channels, namely Star Sports 2 Hindi HD, Star Sports 2 Telugu HD, and Star Sports 2 Tamil HD. These channels are set to go live on March 15, 2025.
With the launch of these new channels, JioStar’s sports portfolio will grow significantly. The company will now operate a total of 24 sports channels in both SD and HD formats. This expansion aims to provide localised sports content to a diverse audience across India, ensuring a better viewing experience for sports enthusiasts.

Another key move in JioStar’s strategy is the shift of Colors Rishtey and Star Utsav to free-to-air (FTA) platforms. This decision aims to enhance the accessibility of entertainment content to a wider audience, catering to the growing demand for FTA channels in India.

Revamping Sports18 Under the Star Sports Brand
One of the most significant changes in JioStar’s strategy is the rebranding of the Sports18 network. The company plans to phase out the Sports18 name entirely and replace it with the well-established Star Sports brand. This rebranding will help consolidate the company’s sports broadcasting identity under a single, powerful name.JioStar’s five existing Sports18 channels will adopt new identities:
- Sports18 1 will be renamed Star Sports 2 Hindi.
- Sports18 2 will become Star Sports 2 Telugu.
- Sports18 3 will transition to Star Sports 2 Tamil.
- Sports18 Khel will be rebranded as Star Sports Khel.
Additionally, JioStar will launch HD versions of these channels, namely Star Sports 2 Hindi HD, Star Sports 2 Telugu HD, and Star Sports 2 Tamil HD. These channels are set to go live on March 15, 2025.

As part of its strategic shift, JioStar will discontinue nine channels, including:- Comedy Central SD and HD
- Vh1 SD and HD
- MTV Beats SD and HD
- Bindass
- Colors Odia
- Star Kiran HD
