Janmashtami 2023: 5 Bollywood Songs That Perfectly Capture Lord Krishna's Charm And Playfulness

-

The month to celebrate Lord Krishna's greatness and charm is here. September 6 marks Janmashtami 2023, the day when Lord Krishna was born. Makhan Chor, Murli Bajaiya, Shyam, Nand Lal, and many such names of Krishna have been celebrated in Bollywood. There are several songs that evoke his playfulness.

On Jamashtami 2023, we are here with a popular list of Bollywood songs that will strike the right chord with your devotion for Krishna. But before we move on to the list of Janmashtami songs, let's understand why we celebrate this Indian festival.

Janmashtami 2023: History and Significance

Also known as Gokulashtami, Krishnashtami, Krishna Jayanti, Saatam Aatham, and many such names, this festival of India signifies Lord Krishna's birth into the world as Lord Vishnu's eighth avatar. He was the destroyer of evil.

As per Hindu literature, the Bhagawad Gita and Bhagwata Purana state the story of Lord Krishna's birth and how his evil maternal uncle, King Kansa, wanted to kill him. Ever since his birth, every 8th day of the Bhadrapada month is called Krishnapaksha. It is celebrated as Krishna Janmashtami.

The festival typically includes a celebration of the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight, followed by Dahi Handi. Janmashtami 2023 will see an auspicious mahurat of 3:37 p.m. on September 6 and 4:14 p.m. on September 7.

Bollywood songs on Krishna Janmashtami

These songs have traveled their own journey. While some describe Lord Krishna's mischievousness, others have a peppy beat, giving him a makeover in modern times.

1. Bada Natkhat Hai Re: Amar Prem

In the 1972 movie, Sharmila Tagore is looking for her mischievous son, referring to him as Bal Krishna. This song is about a mother-son relationship that draws similarities from the Hindu mythological story. The song shows the unbreakable bond between the two, just like Yasoda and Krishna.

2. Radha Kaise Na Jale: Lagaan

While we all know the epic love story of Radha Krishna, seldom do we hear the former being envious of his infamous gopikas. Radha Kaise Na Jale is a fun banter between the two where Radha complains about Krishna not expressing his love out loud for her. The beats and peppiness of the song will make you tap your feet throughout.

3. Kanha So Jaa Zara: Bahubali 2

This song from the 2017 release is yet another peppy and party-like song that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna. It features Anushka Shetty and Prabhas. Kanha So Jaa Zara also represents the traditions of people from South India who have deep faith in the Lord.

4. Go Go Govinda: OMG

This peppy number from OMG strikes the right chord with Dahi Handi and its vibe. It brings people together in joyful spirits to celebrate the festival of Janmashtami. Sonakshi Sinha and Prabhudeva's moves will make you dance till the very end.

5. Kanhaiya Twitter Pe Aaja: The Great Indian Family

The song from Vicky Kaushal's upcoming movie is yet another modernized version celebrating Lord Krishna and his playfulness. In an attempt to make it relatable to the Gen Z audience, the makers of the song are inviting Kanhaiya to be a part of the Twitter generation.

Radio City wishes you a happy Janmashtami 2023.
