Janhvi Kapoor to star in Sridevi`s Chalbaaz remake
Janhvi Kapoor is currently soaring high on the success of her recent release, Param Sundari. The romantic comedy drama, which also stars Sidharth Malhotra, was released on August 29 and has been doing well at the box office.
Amid the same, reports suggest Janhvi is in talks to embrace one of the most iconic roles played by her mother, Sridevi. The actress is in talks to feature in the remake of Chalbaaz, where she would be playing the lead.
A source close to the development shared some interesting details with Bollywood Hungama and said, "For Janhvi, Chaalbaaz is a lot more than just a film. It`s an emotion. She has jumped onto the chance of playing the lead role in Chaalbaaz but is treading this with utmost caution.”

The insider added that Chalbaaz isn`t just merely another Bollywood classic`s remake for Janhvi Kapoor, but she is determined to do justice to her mother`s legacy.
“She is taking opinions from people around for the Chaalbaaz remake. She is excited but is also wary of all the comparisons. She is expected to take a call on the Chaalbaaz remake by the end of September,” the source added.
For the uninitiated, earlier it was Shraddha Kapoor who was approached to play the lead. However, she walked out of the project, citing creative differences. The remake will be titled `Chalbaaz in London`.
Chalbaaz was one of the iconic and most remembered roles of Sridevi. The Pankaj Parashar directorial was released in December 1989 and was instantly a box office blockbuster. A comedy drama with a twin-sister plot showcased the late actress`s versatility as the timid Anju and the feisty Manju.
The film was a commercial success and collected around 6.75 crore back in the day, making it one of the highest-grossers of the year.
Critics and fans lauded Sridevi`s performance, with many calling it effortless and a masterclass of versatility, comic timing, and dramatic range. She also won the Best Actress Filmfare Award for the same.
As for Janvi Kapoor, after Param Sundari`s success, she is gearing up for Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumar opposite Varun Dhawan. The movie also features Rohit Saraf and Sanya Malhotra in key roles.
Helmed by Shashank Khaitan and produced by Karan Johar, the film will release in cinemas on September 12.
