Diljit Dosanjh nominated for Emmy Awards for his performance in Amar Singh Chamkila
Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh is one of the artists who enjoys global fame. After delivering some exceptional performances, he has further consolidated his global prowess after he landed an International Emmy Awards nomination for Amar Singh Chamkila.
The nominations include Dosanjh for Best Performance by an Actor and Amar Singh Chamkila for the TV Movie/Mini-Series category. The film was celebrated for its extraordinary storytelling and musical masterpieces by AR Rahman and Irshad Kamil`s lyrics.
For the uninitiated, the film was based on the glorious yet controversial life of Amar Singh, who was considered the `Elvis of Punjab`. It also starred Parineeti Chopra in the leading role.

Netflix India has earned two nominations at the prestigious film awards – Best Performance by an Actor (Diljit Dosanjh) and TV Movie/Mini-Series – highlighting its exceptional storytelling on the global stage, across 16 categories.

The Hindi biopic was directed and co-written by Imtiaz Ali, starring Dosanjh and Parineeti in titular roles as Chamkila and Amarjot, respectively.
Chamkila`s provocative music captured the rural Punjab in the 1980s. The movie blends musical masterpieces with social realities that fuelled the late artist`s songs, tackling issues of castes, desire, and conservationalism.

The Good Newzz actor reacted to the news and shared, “I feel truly honoured. Amar Singh Chamkila, an artist from Punjab, is being recognised and talked about at a global level on such a prestigious stage like the International Emmys. This nomination is not just for me but for the entire legacy of Chamkila. I am grateful to Imtiaz Ali Sir for choosing me for the role.”
The actor-singer was highly praised for his earnest and impeccable performance, with many saying he brought Chamkila back to life.
Reflecting on the global nomination, the filmmaker said, “Amar Singh Chamkila is a rare film because it has to do with the scent of the land of Panjab—its music, its socio-politics, its conflict, its aspirations, and its many problems. The fact that art creates conflict was represented through the life of Amar Singh Chamkila in this film."
"We are all very happy that we could bring the story of Chamkila, such a unique individual, to the fore. I would like to congratulate Diljit Dosanjh twice over because he`s also nominated in the Best Actor category in the Emmy Awards for this film,” he added.
