rains bangalore 2025
The city witnessed its heaviest rainfall of the year on Sunday, with approximately 40 mm of rain recorded in 24 hours, leading to severe waterlogging and massive traffic jams across key areas.
Localities such as Silk Board Junction, Hebbal Junction, Sai Layout, and parts of East and North Bengaluru, including IT hubs, were hit the hardest. Reports of knee-deep water and flooding inside homes surfaced from several areas. The rain lasted for 8 to 9 hours, disrupting the morning commute and causing traffic snarls on major roads, including Anil Kumble Junction to BRV Junction and Belimatha Junction to Binnymill.
The heavy rainfall was driven by a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal, coupled with a trough extending from Maharashtra to Kerala. he system drew in widespread moisture, sparking intense pre-monsoon showers known as mango showers across southern India.. This weather pattern led to unusually intense rainfall for this time of year.
