The makers and writers have confirmed about Ponniyin Selvan 2 starting from where the first part ended. For the unversed, Mani Ratnam's period drama is based on Kalki Krishnamurthy's 1955 novel that shares the same name. The storyline focuses on Arulmozhi Varman and his journey after conquering the Chola empire. Netizens and fans are also intrigued to see Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's character which wasn't explore much in PS 1.

About the cast, Mani Ratnam roped in some massive superstars from across the industries to play some pivotal roles in his magnum opus.
