Maati Baani is a world music band comprising of husband-wife duo Nirali Kartik vocals and Kartik Shah guitars. The band39s sound combines elements of folk, sufism and different genres of world music with Hindustani classical. "Maatibaani" means language of the earth.Q. What do you think of the current indie sceneKartik: The current indie scene is really exciting because for musicians and performers it has become easy to put their work across through various online portals and YouTube etc. Also, there is a trend for discovering artists with fresher sound. Hence, I feel that the current indie scene is strong and artists are getting recognized and appreciated. Q. Can you shed some light on you musical roots?Kartik: I was only a listener when I started and playing instruments came much later when I stepped in college. I use to listen to ghazal initially. Later, my interest shifted to The Beatles and Pink Floyd.Nirali: I was completely into Indian classical when I started my musical journey.
