If youve done something from your heart, the universe will reward you: Hrithik Roshan

- Team RadioCity

As 'Kaabil' opens to packed houses across the globe, Team Radio City catches up with Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam to discover the hysteria and anxiety that has been gripping the two good-looking actors over the release of their highly-anticipated film.Hrithik what has been the best response you've received for the trailer?Hrithik: I am overjoyed because the trailer has generated such a positive response for the film everyone has put in so much hard work so when you get appreciated, it feels good. I feel positive, excited and a little anxious. You happened to say that after 'Mohenjo Daro', 'Kaabil' is one of your most anticipated releases.Hrithik: Did I say that? I don't think I would've said it in that context. But yes, 'Kaabil' is a very special film because after a long time, I get to play a character that has got so much depth into it.Surely, you would've thanked your father for that, isn't it?Hrithik: Of course, because my father has instilled those values in me. But here, more importantly I would like to thank the writer because often, we forget to acknowledge good writing. It takes months and years for writers to prepare the scripts for us. So I really want to take this opportunity to thank the writers and our other technicians including the cinematographers for their unending contributions. I want them to know that they are valued and I would like to push all my efforts possible towards their specialisation so that they enjoy equal credit as all of us do. Of course my father and Sanjay Gupta's vision matter, but equal credit deserves to be given to the entire unit of 'Kaabil'.Yami, for you this would've been a golden opportunity given the good script, and the chance to be cast opposite Hrithik.Yami: Each film has its own destiny. Either your film chooses you or vice versa, I do not know. I just happened to get a call from Rakeshji. I was thrilled firstly to only speak to him and get a chance to meet him. I had no idea that I was under consideration for my role. I attempted a few lines from the script because it is not a run-of-the-mill kind of a role. It is very challenging and if I was in the producer's place, I too would ask my heroine to do a screen test.Hrithik: The point is that the entire story is about the girl. It is a very difficult role to play. Much before Yami came into the picture, a lot of talented names were being considered and a lot of screen tests were being done. I had not seen any of those. But one fine day, they came to me after Yami's test was taken and they showed me all the prospects on the laptop. The first test they showed me was of her's and till then I had not seen any of her movies. So I had no idea about her work. But when they showed me her test, within the first few dialogues, she happened to enact a dialogue which is actually an important one in the film, but she was not aware of its importance. Yet, the sensitivity and the ability with which she delivered that, I just said that very moment that we've found our girl. We just shut the laptop after that and we knew we found our actress because no one else could've done it the way she did.So how much of a preparation did you have to undertake for your roles?Hrithik: This is supposed to be commonplace for every actor. There are no two ways about it. You have to do your research if you're playing a certain part. So Yami and I saw movies, met people who were undergoing similar conditions, Yami must have locked herself up for hours together to slip into her part. I used to put on a blindfold. It's very important to understand what darkness feels like.Yami: It's not about having knowledge. What I learnt from Hrithik is to share it. Having knowledge about something is not credible but sharing it is. Ultimately, its teamwork. It's not just about being a good actor but also to be able to be willing and secure enough to uplift others' performances.Hrithik: It's not just between us. It was with the entire crew. The script resonated with everyone so much that everyone was so giving towards the scenes. They would want to put in their best foot forward to enhance those scenes. Everyone was helping each other. There is a roller-coaster scene where you both are seated at the first seat. It must have been very dangerous filming it, isn't it?Hrithik: It is supposed to be scary and dangerous. But you overcome that and that is what we try to drive in that scene. So do you have any fond memories on the roller-coaster in your childhood?Hrithik: I used to be very scared. I would make an excuse that my stomach is hurting and all.Yami: You tend to shut your eyes when you sit on the first seat. But our eyes were open while filming that scene. So much has been said about the film clashing with 'Raees', Your last release 'Mohenjo Daro' came out with Akshay Kumar's 'Rustom'. Does it bother you that business gets affected?Hrithik: It does. But that's how it is. I only hope that both the films do well and both parties party with each other.Speaking of the music of 'Kaabil', which is your favourite song from the soundtrack?Hrithik: I think for both of us it has to be 'Mon Amour'. We both will remember the memories associated with this song the most. It's a romantic phase of the love story. In the song, two people who are being themselves realise that they are more connected with each other than they can think of. One is dancing and the other is co-ordinating with this person. It has been choreographed by Ahmed Khan and it has been done brilliantly. I was scared I felt that we would take 5-6 days to finish the song. But we completed the song in two and a half days.Yami: This, despite Hrithik being unwell.Going by the initial response to the release, what are your final expectations?Hrithik: I don't keep any expectations. Because once I go through the first copy of my film, I leave it to the hands of fate. I never get disappointed because I don't keep those expectations. All I believe is that if you've done something from your heart, the universe will reward and gratify you wholesomely. It need not be materialistic or with money and success, it can be through so many other beautiful ways. It may take time, but it is definite.
